Caged compounds
The term caged was firstly introduced in the 1970s and describes compounds which are modified with light cleavable protection groups. These groups can be cleaved with light between 250 and 450 nm and the desired compound is released quantitatively. In our research group we want to develop new lipophilic caging groups for nucleotides and want to combine the caged approach with the already established bioorthogonal and lipophilic 4-Acyloxybenzyl protecting groups. With these tools we want to synthesize different lipophilic masked caged nucleotides, second messenger and nucleoside diphophats sugars.
