Some things to do after 6 p.m. while you are in Hamburg
Regrettably, many places of interest (including practically all museums etc.) shut before 6 p.m.
However, here are some suggestions on what you could do or visit for relaxation after a hard day's work in the lecture hall (if you are not too exhausted): Hamburger Dom - giant fun fair, open until 11 p.m., Fri/Sat until 0030 hrs
Miniatur-Wunderland - the largest digital model railway in the world, open until 9 p.m. on Tuesdays
Panoptikum - Wax figures museum, open until 9 p.m., Sat until midnight
Erotic Art Museum - open until 10 p.m., Fri/Sat until midnight. The museum has a very nice, old-fashioned café.
There are, of course, many outdoor attractions, not least the parks and waterways.
Planten un Blomen, the park next to your hotel, is well worth visiting. There are displays of coloured water fountains and music every night at 10 o'clock on the artificial lake (just follow the crowd).
Ohlsdorf Main Cemetery, the largest park cemetery in the world, is also the most extensive area of green in Hamburg; open until 9 p.m..
You can find a list of parks in Hamburg here
If you would like to see the nicer residential areas of Hamburg from the water, you can take a twilight boat trip on the Alster lake from Jungfernstieg at 8 p.m.
