The First Circular
Invitation:
On behalf of the International Carbohydrate Organization the German Organizing Committee cordially invites all scientists working or interested in all aspects of research in the glycosciences to participate in the 20th International Carbohydrate Symposium to be held in Hamburg, August 27-September 1, 2000.
Hamburg with its 1.7 million inhabitants is the second largest city in Germany next to Berlin.
Hamburg is a centre of trade and industry, port city, media metropolis, university city, art centre, shopping paradise and leisure capital.
Hamburg offers an exceptionally high quality of recreational life, where the Alster flows into the river Elbe with spacious parks and many options for excursions into the surrounding region.
Location: The Symposium will be held at the University of Hamburg in the Department of Chemistry which is located almost downtown Hamburg. It is easily accessible from the Hamburg Airport and the Central Railway Station, by taxi or well-developed metro systems.
Language: The official Symposium language will be English.
Publications: An abstract volume of all Symposium contributions will be available for the scientific participants upon arrival.
Accommodation: Accommodation will be arranged in hotels, pensions and hostels mostly within walking distance from both, the venue and downtown.
Exhibition: During the Symposium a trade exhibition of equipment, products, books etc. related to glycoscience will be held at the Symposium venue.
Scientific Programme: The scientific agenda will include presentations and discussions of all activities in glycoscience reaching from basic research to applied technology in areas spanning from synthesis via structural analysis into biological chemistry and medicine. In addition to plenary and invited session lectures there will be short oral communications and poster presentations.
Contributions concerning basic research as well as applied findings in the carbohydrate field related to the headings Synthetic Aspects - Structural Analysis - Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry - Industrial Glycotechnology are welcome.
Social Events: The social programme for delegates and accompanying persons will include an Opening Mixer, a Symposium Reception, and the Symposium Banquet. For accompanying persons a touristic programme with daily excursions will be arranged by SCC Seeland Congress + Communication.
On Wednesday afternoon participants and accompanying persons will be invited to attend in joint excursions.
Second Circular: The second circular containing more detailed information on the scientific programme, accommodations, general arrangements, registration forms and instructions for lectures and posters will be mailed in December, 1999. Those wishing to attend the Symposium and to receive the second circular are asked to return the attached reply card before April 1, 1999. Mailing of this card does not imply any commitment, however, greatly assists the closer planning of the Symposium.
