Welcome to NaNaX 9
Dear Participants, dear Colleagues,
We welcome you here in Hamburg for the 9th event of the Nanoscience with Nanocrystals international conference series. We hope that your time here will be both useful and entertaining. Let us introduce you briefly to NaNaX 9.
Nanoscience deals with phenomena and properties that are characteristic of the nanosize regime. These may range from quantum size effects in semiconductors to localized surface plasmons or Coulomb blockade in metals, through a whole variety of exciting new effects that are characteristic of nanoscale materials.
Nanocrystals are employed in several fields of science ranging from biology and medicine and the development of new diagnostic methods, drug delivery, and imaging, to physics and engineering and the fabrication of novel devices for energy conversion and storage. The major reason for the vast range of applications of colloidal nanocrystals is the ability to easily tune the density of their electronic states, which allows the control of their magnetic, optical, electrical, catalytic and mechanical properties, characteristic for different materials. The control over the properties of these nanocrystals can be achieved by chemically adjusting their size, shape, and composition as well as by carefully selecting the organic molecules to coat their surface.
NaNaX 9 is the ninth international conference which will focus on the presentation and discussion of the latest research related to nanocrystals and their applications. Topics will include the synthesis of nanocrystals, the observation of novel phenomena deriving from exotic types of nanocrystals, the assembly of nanocrystal building blocks to form larger materials with peculiar properties, as well as applications arising from advanced and functional nanostructures in various scientific fields.
