Open PhD Position
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE FOR THE PROJECT "THEORY OF RESONANT RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY OF SEMICONDUCTOR NANOCRYSTALS"
- SALARY LEVEL 13 TV-L -
The position in accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences on 1. June 2019.
This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor con-tract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of 3 years. The position calls for 50 % of standard work hours per week*.
Responsibilities: Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pur-sue independent research and further academic qualifications.
Specific Duties: The project is a joint effort of experiment and theory and will be conducted by two PhD students. The theory work (advertised here) will be based in Hamburg and the the experimental work at the University Erlangen-Nürnberg. Both students are expected to frequently exchange infor-mation and to visit each other’s facility. The candidate should develop the theoretical and computational framework necessary for the calculation of the resonant Raman signal in colloidal semiconductor nanoparticles. Starting from "standard" DFT calculations of electronic and vibrational properties of very small nanoclusters, the method should be expanded to treat larger structure, such as encountered in the experi-mental setup. A detailed roadmap of the project exists.
Requirements: A university degree in a relevant field. A master's degree in theoretical physics or theoretical chemistry with emphasis on numerical ab-initio atomistic approaches. Some knowledge of elec-tron-phonon or vibronic coupling as well as programming experience would be advantageous.
The University aims to increase the number of women in research and teaching and explicitly encourages women to apply. Equally qualified female applicants will receive preference in ac-cordance with the Hamburg act on gender equality (Hamburgisches Gleichstellungsgesetz, HmbGleiG).
Qualified disabled candidates or applicants with equivalent status receive preference in the application process.
