Online Classification of Hazardous Substances
On the web page of the online classification you can draw in the structure of a substance and have a hazardous substance evaluation carried out. This online evaluation system uses various mechanisms to classify a substance:
- Firstly, simplification of the structure if possible (elimination of water of crystallization and bound water molecules as well as hydrogen halides, replacement of deuterium by hydrogen, etc.),
- Search for the (possibly simplified) structure in the CLAKS database, Performance of simple degradation reactions with subsequent evaluation of the products,
- Application of various chemicals legislation to the structure (including EU Directive GHS-CLP (formerly 67/548/EEC), german legislation on Narcotics (BTMG) and New Psychoactive Substances (NpSG), Chemical Weapons Convention ).
For known (i.e. already registered) compounds, the information stored in the CLAKS database is used. If possible, substances without known classification are subjected to simple "degradation reactions", whose products are then re-evaluated. This also makes it possible to classify unknown substances to some extent. Such classifications made by the system may not be complete, but may provide information on possible hazards. These compounds will show the comment "unknown compound, incomplete hazard information calculated from structure".
In the case of unknown compounds, the system checks additionally whether the structure or a substructure is mentioned in legislation, for example, in the annexes of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). All methods for evaluation and classifications are developed to the best of our knowledge and belief. Please note, however, that we cannot guarantee the information and classifications obtained through the online evaluation!
The online evaluation system is based on the results of the diploma thesis of Christian Schmidt (working group Vill). Further developments from the working group are continuously incorporated.
Note on the data:
Further data stored in CLAKS for the substances can be obtained via the CLAKS database. System requirements
To use the online evaluation system, you need
- A current web browser (e.g. Mozilla Firefox , Internet Explorer or Apple Safari)
- Please also activate JavaScript.
- The evaluation works on a mobile device, but we recommend the input with mouse and keyboard.
