The ATRA reactionconcept (Atom Transfer Radical Addition) offers the possibility of creating C-C bonds by adding halogenated olefins to carbon double bonds. In contrast to free radical reactions, the radicals can be reversibly deactivated by the equilibrium of the starting reaction. Due to this property, the radical concentration remains low and termination reactions in the form of recombination are reduced.
In my research I am dedicated to the optimization of existing systems with respect to their effectiveness by identifying limiting factors. Furthermore, I am working on new catalyst systems which could circumvent any limitations and thus replace existing systems in the future.
