Pharma-Abi-Preis
The Pharma-Abi-Preis is an award for students, who are graduating from German high schools. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in the natural sciences at the Abitur level. It is aimed at particularly dedicated and high-performing students. The goal is to spark interest in pharmaceutical and scientific degree programs and to inspire graduates to explore the diverse career opportunities in pharmacy.

The award is presented by the German Pharmaceutical Society (Deutsche Pharmazeutische Gesellschaft – DPhG) in cooperation with local partners. The partner in Hamburg is the Institute of Pharmacy within the Department of Chemistry at the University of Hamburg. The Hamburg regional group of the DPhG is represented by its board members, Prof. Dr. med. Elke Oetjen and Prof. Dr. Ralph Holl. Elke Oetjen is a medical specialist in pharmacology and toxicology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). Ralph Holl is a research group leader at the Institute of Organic Chemistry within the Department of Chemistry at the University of Hamburg.

Benefits of the Pharma-Abi-Preis
The award includes a certificate recognizing the recipient’s achievements, as well as a one-year subscription to the DPhG’s professional journal “Pharmakon,” which presents the effects of particularly interesting drugs or drug classes. Award recipients are also given the opportunity to visit the Institute of Pharmacy as part of the “Tag der Pharmazie“ (Open Day of Pharmacy) and gain insight into current research on site.

The 2025 Pharma-Abi Award Winners
Pharma-Abi-Preis: Nominations for 2027
Teachers from participating schools nominate award winners.
One student per school who has demonstrated outstanding performance in science subjects may be nominated and receive the award.
To submit a nomination, schools should provide the following information:
- The student’s name
- The name and address of the school, as well as a contact person
- The date of the high school graduation ceremony
Nominations are accepted through June 21, 2027, and can be sent to pharma-abi-preis"AT"uni-hamburg.de.
