Research group Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Maison
We try to decipher the influence of charged groups such as zwitterions on pharmacokinetics of tracers for disease imaging and the interaction of material surfaces with biological matter. An important aspect for small molecules and materials in this context is their hydration, which has an influence on physicochemical properties such as solubility, reactivity and T1-relaxivity as well as biological properties such as unspecific binding of biological matter and cytotoxicity. Our major chemical expertise is organic synthesis, solid-phase synthesis, polymer synthesis and the analytics of small molecules and materials with a particular focus on NMR, electrochemical methods and high-sensitivity analytics like XPS, fluorescence microscopy and ICP-MS. Microbiological and cell biological evaluation of small molecules and materials is also performed in our lab.
