1991-2010: “Privatdozent” (Venia legend for pharmaceutical biology) at the Institute of Pharmacy at Hamburg University, his habilitation thesis focused on investigations on occurrence, analysis and biology of volatile constituents of the medicinal plant Melissa officinalis L. and its tissue cultures.

1976-1990: Ph.D student and scientific assistant at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology at Würzburg University (Germany). Also responsible for measurements, service and maintenance of a GC/MS system
