Didactics and history
Didactics and history of science with a focus on chemistry at the University of Hamburg
Didactics of chemistry
The training of student teachers in chemistry includes many sub-areas. In addition to teaching chemistry for different types of schools (elementary, middle, high school, vocational schools), the industrial-technical courses were also included.
The subject representatives for the chemistry major in the Department of Education are or were:
Gerda Freise → Barbara Schenk → Anneliese Wellensiek & Jürgen Menthe
Chemistry Society
At the suggestion of the Hamburg Commission for Teacher Education, the so-called societies were established in mid-2001 with the intention of making teacher education more effective. Based on the examination subjects for student teachers, there are 28 societies, including the chemistry society.
The societies are working groups composed of members from different institutions, taking into account the different phases of education. In the chemistry society, the educational sciences/didactics of chemistry, the state institute for teacher training, the subject chemistry and student teachers are represented. Speaker of the Sozietät Chemie from 2005 to 2013 was Peter Grunwald , from 2014 the speakers are Michael Steiger and Jürgen Menthe
The work assignment for the societies, which have no decision-making authority, is not sharply formulated. The work of the Societies was initially characterized over several years by the development of the core curricula on the basis of the examination regulations for students of the teaching profession valid at that time, followed by critical monitoring of the establishment of BA/MA study programs with the associated examination regulations, as well as the establishment of new or the adaptation of existing courses to the new study programs, including the initiation of necessary measures. The latter concerns, for example, the organization and implementation of the core internship on the basis of cross-institutional cooperation.
Industrial-technical sciences
The industrial-technical sciences were initially organized in one institute (the IGTW) in the Department of Education. However, this institute was then assigned to the Department of Chemistry and then later integrated proportionally into the 7 institutes of the Department of Chemistry.
IGTW faculty members are listed with the institute bibliographies.
History of chemistry
The history of chemistry is a research area of the Institute for the History of Science which is part of the Department of Mathematics.
These pages list only those researchers who have been directly involved in the history of chemistry.
