Global life expectancy is rising steadily. As a result, aging research is increasingly coming into focus. A central objective is not only to extend life expectancy but rather to extend the healthy lifespan. Age-associated challenges affect neuronal health which in turn facilitate the development of age-related diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Many age-related aberrancies are associated with defects in translational control. Neurons exhibit the highest degree of susceptibility to alterations in spatial and temporal translation control. The objective of my project is to elucidate the impact of aging on translational processes and translational control in neurons, with a particular focus on motor neurons.
