Otto Holst is leader of the Division of Structural Biochemistry at Research Center Borstel and Professor at the University of Lübeck. He obtained his Ph.D. in science from the University of Freiburg i. Br., Germany, in 1983 at the Max-Planck-Institute of Immunobiology in Freiburg i. Br. From 1984 through 1986 he worked at University of Regensburg (Biochemie I) as postdoctoral fellow. Since 1987 he has been working at Research Center Borstel, first as postdoctoral fellow, then as reseracher and group leader. He is interested in the isolation and analyses of natural compounds, in particular lipids and carbohydrates from Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Main tools and methods used are GPC, HPLC, HPAEC, affinity chromatography, GLC, gel electrophoresis, blotting techniques, NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.
