ITN Project „4Photon“ The 4Photon project deals with the technical realization of components for quantum computers, i.e. computers able to provide computational peak performances for specific tasks. In particular, the project’s focus is the development of semiconductor quantum dots for tunable single photon sources. Research groups from eight universities, including the leading Università degli Studi di Milano Bicocca and the University of Basel, as well as three companies participate in the 4Photon project.
The University of Hamburg is represented by two research groups: Our research group has to examine ways of generating entangled photons and the short-term dynamics of excited states. The group of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Hansen has to refine its own method for producing semiconductor quantum dots with tunable properties for applications in quantum optics. The proportion of the University of Hamburg on the funding of 3,9 million euros is around half a million euros.
