Temperature Dependence of Normal Modes in a Nematic Liquid Crystal

Abstract

We have measured the temperature dependence of the intensity and spectrum of light scattered by fluctuations in the nematic phase of p-methoxy-benzylidene pn-butylaniline. Our measurements are interpreted using two phenomenological theories of nematic liquid crystals.
