9.4.5 Vanadium group metals

Abstract

This chapter presents diffusion tables for vanadium group metals, namely, vanadium (V), niobium (Nb) and tantalum (Ta). Pre-exponential factor and activation enthalpy are tabulated for vanadium group metals by varying the temperature, solvent element, diffusant (hydrogen, deuterium, and tritium) and hydrogen concentration. The methods of determination includes Gorsky-effect method, electrochemical pulse method, quenching, annealing, electrochemical time-lag method, resistivity relaxation method, absorption method, neutron radiographic method, time dependent resistivity method, quasi-elastic neutron-scattering method, desorption and permeation methods, NMR, proton spin-lattice relaxation method, resistometric method, and pulsed-field-gradient spin-echo NMR method.
