8.2 Diffusion tables for C, N, and O in metals

Abstract

This chapter provides information on indirect methods which are based on the Snoek effect -internal friction methods and, at the lower temperatures, measurements of anelastic stress or strain relaxation for the diffusion of carbon (C), nitrogen (N) and oxygen (O) in bcc metals. The diffusion of C, N and O in alkaline earth metals (Be, Mg, Ca), scandium group metals (Sc,Y, La) and rare earth metals (Sm, Gd, Ho, Er, Lu), titanium group metals (Ti, Zr, Hf), vanadium group metals (V, Nb, Ta), chromium group metals (Cr, Mo, W), manganese group metals (Re), iron group metals (Fe), cobalt group metals (Co), nickel group metals (Ni, Pd, Pt), noble metals (Cu, Ag), zinc group metals (Zn) and actinide group metals (Th, U) are tabulated. Arrhenius parameters including preexponential factor (D0), activation enthalpy (Q) values, temperature ranges, and experimental methods are listed for these solute metals.
