3.2.16 Actinide group metals

Abstract

This chapter compiles the data for diffusion of various solute impurities in actinide group metals including thorium (Th), uranium (U) and plutonium (Pu). The diffusion data are reported in terms of pre-exponential factor (D0) and the activation enthalpy (Q). The temperature range quoted is the range over which measurements were made and used to calculate the quoted values of D0 and Q. The experimental methods including lathe sectioning, diffusion couple method, spark source mass spectroscopy, scanning laser mass spectroscopy, precipitate dissolution, and grinder sectioning have been shown. Various remarks including electro-mobility and effective charge have been indicated.
