Abstract

This chapter presents data on X-ray diffraction of surface structures. It presents several experimental results, with a short description of the work from which figures and tables are taken. Experimental set-up, and experimental plot and the geometry of the two-dimensional reciprocal lattice are shown. The geometry of the experiment is sketched and a couple of diffraction peaks are illustrated. The calculated structures of the commensurate phase and the incommensurate phase of Pb on Cu are shown. In addition, the chapter presents the diffracted intensities for the commensurate and incommensurate monolayer of Pb on Cu(110). The fluorescence signal was generated by a Ge monolayer deposited on the silicon surface. Examples of fluorescence and reflectivity profiles are shown. The geometry of reciprocal space is explained. Scan profiles, a contour map of the Patterson function and structure factor intensities of GaSb are figured out. The effects of thermal roughening of the Ag(110) surface are shown. Atomic bond lengths are tabulated.
