Abstract

This chapter discusses photoemission and inverse photoemission of iridium (Ir), nickel (Ni) and palladium (Pd). Angle-resolved photoemission spectrum, high resolution soft X-ray photoemission spectrum, and angle-resolved soft X-ray photoemission spectrum of Ir, Ni, and Pd are illustrated. Surface core level shifts on Ni (100) of 0.3...0.5 eV to lower binding energy (dependent on the core level) have been predicted theoretically. Projection of the bulk band structure of Ni onto the (110) surface Brillouin zone at the symmetry point is illustrated. Inverse photoemission spectrum of Ni, Pd are illustrated. Surface core level shifts of the Pd 3d levels to lower binding energy of 0.440(3) eV for Pd(100) and 0.240(1) eV for Pd (110) have been observed. Surface bandgap emission has been observed on Pd (111) for photon energies below 7.8 eV. Binding energies of occupied surface states and unoccupied surface states on nickel and palladium surfaces are tabulated.
