8.2.2.1.1 Group IA (alkali metals); Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs

Abstract

This chapter provides data of photoemission of group IA (alkali metals): lithium (Li), sodium (Na), potassium (K), rubidium (Rb) and cesium (Cs). Lithium has the body-centered cubic structure with a lattice constant of 3.509 Å (at 300K). Calculations of the surface electronic band structure, and surface state of Li(100) are illustrated. In addition, photoemission spectrum from the (110) surface of Li is shown. Sodium has the body-centered cubic structure with a lattice constant of 4.291 Å at RT. The photoemission spectrum from the (110) surface of Na is shown. Potassium has the body-centered cubic structure with a lattice constant of 5.32 Å at RT. The photoemission spectrum from the (110) surface of K is illustrated. Rubidium has the body-centered cubic structure with a lattice constant of 5.70 Å at RT. The photoemission spectrum from the (110) surface of Rb is figured out. Cesium has the body-centered cubic structure with a lattice constant of 6.045 Å (at 5K). The surface core level photoemission spectra of Cs is illustrated.
