Atomic Defects in Metals · Ag-Au

Abstract

This chapter provides data on properties and interactions of atomic defects in AgxAu1-x alloy system. The kinetics of the formation of SRO has been extensively investigated for the Au-rich side of this alloy system by measurements of the electrical resistivity after different quenching procedures. The mobility of the SIA and their contribution to the change of the SRO was investigated by electron irradiations at different temperatures. Details of the annealing behaviour of AgAu are shown in figure. There is a direct indication for SIA migration and ordering by SIA migration only for the 50% alloy i.e. the small increase of Δρ above 160 K. The silver rich side of the phase diagram has been investigated by irradiations in the HVEM and from the kinetics of defect formation, it was concluded that the SIA have a higher mobility than the vacancies. Properties of AgxAu1-x are tabulated.
