Abstract

This chapter discusses the directional dependence of the displacement energy of metals like aluminum (Al), copper (Cu), platinum (Pt) and gold (Au) through illustrations. The damage rates of Al, Au, cadmium (Cd) and zinc (Zn) under neutron irradiation at 1.74 K as function of deformation, are illustrated. Cascade yield in various metals and alloys is provided as a function of ion energy and mass. The subcascade yield for the formation of cascades in Au under Au+ irradiation is presented as a function of energy. The defect efficiency and average cascade diameters of disordered zones in metals and alloys under ion and fission neutron irradiation are shown. In addition, the damage rate of alloys under electron irradiation, fast neutron irradiation is illustrated. An illustration on the dependence of disordering coefficient on irradiation temperature in alloy under electron irradiation is presented. Normalized sputtering threshold energies as a function of target to particle mass ratio M2/M1 is also illustrated. Yield factor, normalized to M2 for various M1, are also illustrated. Sputtering yields of single crystal, low-index single and polycrystal as function of energy of ions at normal incidence on various crystal planes are shown. Finally, the chapter provides an illustration on the temperature dependence of minimum displacement energy of copper.
